"I first got into photography in 2016 when I learned the basics of photography. I joined Kells Photography Club and was with them for 3 years. I then joined Drogheda in 2019 and won Intermediate Photographer of the year. I then was in the senior ranks and last year finished runner up in Photographer of the Year.

I have learned so much since joining Drogheda and its a great fit for me.  I initially was exclusively a landscape photographer and last year I successfully got my Associateship with the IPF with a Seascape panel, which is probably still my favourite type of photography. I have also done a lot of portrait work with a mixture of natural light and studio lighting and like to dabble in wildlife photography when I get the chance.

I started entering international salons in the beginning of 2021 and to date and feel very honoured to have won 6 blue pins (Best Author in an International Salon), some of which had Trophies and prize money. I have also won a lot of medals for individual images. To name a few of the Salons- Venera (Montenegro), Foto -Film Calella (Spain), Riedisheim (France), CIUDAD DE CEUTA (Spain), Vila D”Alemara (Spain), Indonesia Circuit, Apa Circuit (India).

The top right image is titled 'Whiskey Time' and is a self-portrait I shot in 2020. I have won many awards for this photograph including a number of FIAP golds.

The bottom right image is titled 'Gateway to Heaven" and is of the Crohy Sea Arch in Donegal using a long exposure technique. Donegal is my favourite place in Ireland for seascape photography. I just love the ruggedness of the coastline." (John, 2021)

John has recently been awarded a AFIAP (Artiste FIAP) Distinction. FIAP is an International organisation of national associations of photography.
